We stayed for 3 nights at this luxuriously decorated hotel (each floor is a museum in itself). The personnel was ever helpful and welcoming. Morning breakfast buffet was lavish, with excellent local products such as salami and cheese, as well as conventional breakfast (egg and bacon). Freshly squeezed orange juice was served. In the evening, we dined at the excellent restaurant, which has an extensive gluten-free menu in addition to the regular dishes (black sepia pasta was incredibly delicious as an appetizer). Warmly recommended!
Hotel ambience and location.
Spa is very poor for the hotel standard, everything that indend to attend to modern conveniences has a lot to improve. It cannot be called but hotel, not hotel&spa. We miss a informal restaurant, cafeteria type. The bar at the pool is too simple for the hotel. The hotel restaurant does not correspond to the expectations: too expensive and a very poor menu, without option for vegs. The restaurant is very good for breakfast, with good food and a lot of nice space opening to the lake.
Staff professional and friendly attitidud - room furniture and bathroom very luxury
Fitness equipment poor and old - no air-condition. Swimming pool needs renovation work
The building. The location. A real fairy tale hotel. The ecologic respect to spiders hanging outside the balconys and big candles which protec you from mosquitoes from the area enter your room.
The rooms prices to high, which avoid to atract more interesting people, artists, even some nobilty.
The hotel was an excellent choice being a short walk from the centre of Stresa. Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees has a wide range of first class facilities including a spa which we used. Car parking is available which is useful as it is at a premium in Stresa. The multilingual staff are knowledgable, friendly and helpful. The resturant has an extensive buffet available for breakfast and dinner, which we ate twice, was delicious.
A few of the facilities in the bathroom needed servicing with plugs not keeping water in the sinks for example but these were minor issues.
Best hotel in Stresa
Support services - e.g. dinner at the hotel restaurant and taxi ordered through concierge cost TWICE more than just outside the door. For example for two starters, one desert and 2 glasses of simple wine - 120 euro. In nearby restaurant (much better than hotel's) same would be 60. Taxi for 7 kilometers drive - 35 euro... I'm not greedy for all this, but don't like to feel fooled.
This is a hotel for the occasional treat - the cost prohibits long stays. The views are tremendous and the hotel ambience is pure luxury. Its location is five minutes from the rail station and its position on the front at Stresa is unbeatable for access to the islands ferry or a stroll on the promenade. Definitely worth a repeat visit
The double bed was actually two twins pushed together, but the covers were for a king size bed, so it was Ok.
Breakfast and lake view Hotel staffs are very nice
Absolutely everything, although perhaps the room could have done with a little better lighting and perhaps the soft furnishings renewing.
the hotel was not cheap but it was a great trip. breakfast was really good and the staff were very helpful i travelled with my elderly mothere and the staff were very helpful with her
it was expensive - 6euros for a cup of cafe! it was great and the cut was heated!
Travelled by train from Milano to Stresa and taxi to hotel.Interesting trip.Reception was fast efficient friendly.room and bathroom excellent comfortable beds an pillows .Breakfast Buffett very good as was service.Concierge desk very helpful and everyone understood English .15 minute walk to Stresa with good restaurants and shopping.Reccomend the three isola trip for a good day out .try to get a room overlooking the Lake as it was stunning.Art Lovers would love that each floor of the hotel is a gallery representing different periods.Definitely a 5 star hotel and you should stay there for at least for two nights if you can afford it.
Internet free for half hour periods on ground floor ony.expensive at 11 Euros a day on 5th floor.
The architecture and decor of the hotel is very nice.
There was nobody at vthe reception to take our luggage. The room was not ready at 14h and moreover the room was not clean but very dusty. The poolarea really needs a drastic renovation. The reservation for dinner was not kept. The building has a lot of potential but staff, pool and rooms need some work.
The friendly staff were excellant
Hotel is very grand and ideally postioned for town centre at Stresa. Staff helpful and excellent breakfast included in the room rate which makes value for money reasonable.
A marvelous experience. Everything surpassed our expectations: beauty of the hotel, location, gardens, surroundings, room, service, breakfast... A dream.
